Here are a few of the more popular and loved potato
creations so well-known to the world:
- FRENCH FRIES
Fries cut into
rectangular strips, wedges or curls, and baked or
deep-fried. Usually served with hamburgers or battered
fish.
- BAKED POTATO with toppings
Whole
baked potato, often served with traditional sour
cream, scallions and bacon bits.
- SCALLOPED POTATOES
Cut into thin
slices (scallops), and laid out in a baking dish with other
ingredients and sauce, and baked.
- HASH BROWNS
Cubed into small
squares or grated into strings, roasted or fried until
crispy and browned. Usually a breakfast accompaniment to
eggs and bacon.

- MASHED POTATOES
Boiled or baked,
and then mashed or whipped to a light, creamy texture
(hopefully with no lumps). Cream, milk, etc. often added to
make it smoother.

Potatoes are cut into
halves or thirds, etc., the flesh is scooped out
and mashed with other ingredients and spices. It is
then put back on the skin strips, covered with generous
grated cheese, and baked.
- POTATO CAKES
Potatoes are grated,
then mixed with other ingredients and spices, and formed
into patties (like hamburger patties), and then fried.
Usually a breakfast food.
- POTATO SALAD
Potates are cut into
small bits or cubes and added to ingredients such as eggs,
mayonnaise, scallions, etc., into a dense refrigerated
salad.
